123, ABC with Me!

Hello Kindergardener's and Parents!

Right now we are working on learning our alphabet!

As stated within Ontario's Kindergarten Curriculum, "Learning to read and write is essential to enable a child to succeed in school and in later life." Specifically, "As children process, they learn to pay attention to the way print and book work, and they learn that printed letters and words represent the sounds and words and worlds of oral language."

Through utilizing play-based learning (the foundation of the Kingergarten program!), we will be working towards phonological awareness. Developing literacy skills such as repeating words, naming characters, and identifying signs, labels, names, letters, and letter sounds are crucial to work towards this goal! This all begins with the basics, making our alphabet extremely important.

It is important that we work on our alphabet as much as we can both inside an outside of class! Try looking around your house, finding objects, and talking about the letter they start with.

Here is a game that you can use to work on your alphabet:

Cannot wait to continue or work on the alphabet this week!

Smiles and Frosting,

Miss Paterson
