My TPACK Journey

My TPACK Journey Reflection

Growing up, I always enjoyed my school tech classes! As technology is changing so rapidly and the number of resources that can be found online increases, the importance of these classes also increases. This being said, this tech lab has opened my eyes to so many new online venues to assist me in my teaching journey. Skills such as being able to optimize photos, shorten links and create eBooks online are transferable skills that I would absolutely take into my classroom. I have always been comfortable using technology in creative and innovative ways, however the resources that we have explored have really broadened my knowledge pertaining to what is available, even if it was just a small dose off each of them! . I am now comfortable with the basics and cannot wait to build on this. This class has encouraged me to go out there and explore what tecnology has to offer!

The Activity Type, eBook is one that I will absolutely use in my teaching! My favourite aspect of it is that you have an end product that incorporates all that you have learned into one polished project. I really enjoy that you can see how all of the skills that you learned over the course of the class are seen layered on top of each other. I also believe that students will enjoy this as it is a fun method to learn skills but not necessarily feel as though they are learning. They will have an end goal in sight and along the process they will gain skills needed to reach this goal. I firmly believe that 'doing' is the best way to learn something, and the eBook is absolutely consisitant with this teaching practice.

The main pedagogical strategy that I learned throughout this process is that allowing students to work at their own pace is extremely beneficial. As we know, every student learns differently, and through providing written instructions, communicating with peers and the teacher, and actually doing the skills, students who identify will all different learning strategies can be accomodated for! Allowing fror students to work at their own speed is also important as I believe that the final product will ultimately be something that they are happier and feel prouder of as they were able to take their time to do it. There is nothing worse than having strict timelines on a project and stressing about them to the extent that they are no longer enjoyable!

Overall, I throughly enjoyed creating my eBook and I am so appreciative of all of the new skills that I have acquired!

Smiles and Sprinkles,

Miss Paterson
